FAST is an acronym for "Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma" and has become synonymous with bedside ultrasound in trauma. Essentially, the scan is performed by a device that can very quickly and accurately give our veterinarians a look at how your pet's internal systems are functioning.
The concept behind the FAST exam is that many life-threatening injuries cause internal bleeding, but this is not always apparent. The FAST Scan Ultrasound allows our care givers to quickly and effectively diagnose what's going on inside your pet, without the time delay of other methods like radiography.
